Common Safety Orientation

One ticket. One standard. Intended for new workers in the energy industry the CSO provides a consistent approach to safe work practices and eliminates the need for redundant general orientation training.

Meeting the needs of Industry

Industry identified a need for a single safety orientation to reduce duplicate training and support seamless movement of workers between sites.

In response, Energy Safety Canada mobilized the Safety Standards Council to develop the CSO and to support broad industry adoption, and subsequent promotion. The Council represents approximately 70 per cent of activity in Canada’s energy industry, across all sectors and company sizes, and serves as the foundation for broad industry adoption.

About the CSO

The CSO is aimed at new workers in the energy industry. It introduces workers from all sectors to safe work practices and incorporates Energy Safety Canada’s 10 Life Saving Rules, which are based on addressing the most at-risk behaviours. There is no recertification requirement for this course.
